在征服地球之后，游戏开发商Firaxis Games终于将《文明》系列游戏的玩家带到前所未见的位置领域。《文明》终于冲出地球，走向宇宙!
《文明：太空》是《文明》系列的最新作，是《半人马座阿尔法星》的精神续作，玩家将前往宇宙探索，初始为一个外星球，丰饶，天空城，真菌为三种世界类型，城市可以建立到外星和前哨战。
玩家可以成为第一个到访新星的人类，与自然生物和新物种对抗，该作里有众多神迹，可以与其他玩家进行外交。
游戏里依然有战争迷雾元素，可以像控制卫星那样操控轨道炮。
在系列最新作《文明：太空》中，玩家将踏足地外星球，将看似不可能生存的星球变为殖民地。游戏模式就和系列其他游戏一样，同样会有熟悉的六角网格系统，但会为玩家提供更多样的选项。
值得一提的是，《文明：太空》的知识树将会改变，知识树从一个中心点开始，玩家可以从几个分支中选择发展方向。第一步则是向较为熟悉的科技方向发展，但最后知识树将会不断发展，选项也会不断增多，更先进的AI，甚至允许玩家将人类和外星人的DNA进行融合。
单位升级方面将会同样采用非线性的模式，让玩家可以多层次弹性化发展。Firaxis还透露，《文明：太空》将会包含卫星武器。
