在NBGI公司发行的武器格斗类游戏《刀魂》系列。本作的目标是实现系列有史以来最高的完成度，将会有非常丰富的游戏模式，还加入了背景故事很丰富的新角色。在画面上，本作的人物表现不算细腻，但是场景非常精美。并且本作还会加入新的AI系统和战斗系统。带给玩家新的感觉。在《灵魂能力3》中已经出现了角色定制功能，并且功能非常完善，可以定制出非常逼真的角色，那么这种功能是否会对应本作的网络模式呢？对此制作人说：“我们当然很想让玩家用自己定制的角色在网络上战斗，不过我们无法确定是否可以与朋友交换自己定制的角色。”《灵魂能力》系列诞生于1995年，最初是一款街机游戏，第二年推出了PS版《魂之利刃》并大获成功，开创了被称为3D武器格斗的新类型。紧接其后二代和三代的推出都大获好评，尤其是在欧美获得了更高的评价，二代在PS2、NGC和XBOX上都取得了不错的销量，不过三代又改为PS2独占游戏，目前该系列全球累积销量已经突破了970万套，可以说是3D武器格斗游戏的最高峰，并且《灵魂能力》的一代还获得了FAMI通杂志的满分评价。而这次系列最新作将会通过次世代主机的强大性能带来新的感动。“这次的一大变化是次世代主机都有完善的网络基础架构。”《灵魂能力4》开发指导Katsutoshi Sasaki说。“我们从玩家那里听说他们真的很需要网络内容，因此我们认为以现在的环境，《灵魂能力4》没有网络模式真的不行。”
《刀魂》系列中，一直都不乏各种另外意外的角色客串登场，比如在《刀魂2》中，就为各个版本准备了不同的角色，PS2版有《铁拳》的三岛平八，NGC版有《塞尔达传说》的林克，XBOX版有再生侠，而将于年内推出的《刀魂4》将会有更加惊人的角色与玩家见面。
NBGI日前在拉斯维加斯召开的消费电子展中宣部，人气武器格斗大作《刀魂4》将会收录《星球大战》的经典角色尤达大师和达斯·维德，其中达斯·维德为PS3版独占角色，尤达大师为XBOX360版独占角色，并且他们在游戏中还将使用原力进行战斗。
